Mounjaro the magic weight loss drug

Is it really weight loss if you have to use a pill or a jab. GLP-1 agonists like Mounjaro or Ozempic aren't new, they have been used to treat type II diabetes and have demonstrated clear mortality benefits. But what if you don't have type II DM but are still overweight. The SELECT study looked at just this question. Ultimately the benefits seem to be significant. The population they examined had a history of cardiovascular disease either a previous heart attack, stroke or evidence of perisperhal vascular disease.

They showed that there was significant drop in cardiovascular complications in non-diabetic patients. There was significant portion (10%) of patients unable to take the medication due to side effects like nausea and vomiting as well as more serious complications like pancreatitis.

Ultimately we know that sustained weight loss is difficult to attain even with the best of intentions. This drug seems to work for most people providing between a 5-10% weight loss. Despite concerns raised about muscle loss, this doesn't appear to be any worse than other weight loss process's in which muscle loss also occurs. It is likely that for a significant percentage weight regain will be a problem once they stop taking the medication, and for some over aggressive weight loss may also become a problem but used under medical supervision this could not only help you lose weight but prevent many of the complications associated with it.
